About HOBO
The Lake Jordan Home Owners & Boat Owners Association, Inc. (HOBO), was officially established on February 12, 1991, with the goals of enhancing recreational opportunities on the lake, improving the quality of life for residents and others that enjoy the lake, and to work with the Alabama Power Company, state and local government agencies to make the lake a safe and healthy place to live and play. HOBO is an Alabama non-profit corporation, and its business affairs are governed by the Alabama Nonprofit Business Corporation Act, the Certificate of Incorporation and the Bylaws adopted by the membership.
HOBO has been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt entity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to HOBO are tax deductible by the contributor.
The incorporators and first officers of the HOBO were Barbara Dreyer, President; Michael Wood, Vice President; Linda Glenn, Secretary; and Lisa Nichols, Treasurer.
In 2012, the Board of Directors was increased from five members to eleven members. Five members of the Board are elected by the general membership for four year terms. HOBO’s officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Parliamentarian) also serve as members of the Board as does the immediate past President. The terms of the directors elected by the general membership are staggered so that two of the directors’ terms expire in the middle of the terms of the other three directors, allowing the Board to have continuity of participation.
The Association currently elects five officers from its membership with each officer serving a two-year term: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Parliamentarian. The officers are responsible for conducting the business affairs of the Association and implementing the policy directives adopted by the Board of Directors and the general membership.
A general membership meeting is held on the fourth Monday of the first month of each calendar quarter: January, April, July and October. In addition to food and fellowship, meetings normally consist of presentations by groups or individuals of topics of interest to HOBO members and the presentation of issues and concerns that may require action by the general membership.
HOBO has a proud tradition of service to the Lake Jordan community. Our contributions include participation in the Renew our Rivers Campaign (the annual lake clean-up); financial contributions to the volunteer fire departments and rescue squad that serves and protects the communities surrounding Lake Jordan; chemical and bacteriological water testing and reporting through the Alabama Water Watch Program; and, participation in the establishment of a severe weather siren warning system operated by the Elmore County Emergency Management Agency. You are invited to join us and help continue that tradition.
